Are Your Marble Floor Tiles Scuffed And Dirty

Are Your Marble Floor Tiles Scuffed And Dirty was originally seen on www.abbeyfloorcare.co.uk

We are in Edgebaston, Birmingham, restoring a dull white marble tile floor.

The main issues with the floor were:

The marble tiles had lost their deep gloss

Scuffs and scratches from foot traffic have damaged the shine on the tiles leaving them dull. At the same the small scratches trap soil making the tiles look as though they are not being cared for and increasingly difficult to keep clean. Some of the tiles have small hairline cracks that have filled with soil. The carcks are too fine to fill, however they can be made cleaner and less obvious. In many areas the white grouting is dirty and stained.

There are uneven tiles throughout the floor

[caption id="attachment_5792" align="aligncenter" width="300"]demonstrating lippage or uneven tiles Lippage is the variation in the height of adjoining tiles is called lippage. In this case the variation in height was below 2.0mm[/caption] The lippage was below 2.0mm so we could feather the grinding up to 25 to 50mm from the wall, reducing the cost of the restoration. We started by applying protection to the walls and adjoining floors to protect them from splashes from the work area. The first job was to get smooth the floor to remove the lippage, deep scratches and prepare the marble for honing and final marble polishing.

Start with marble grinding and honing and polishing

We started with 150 grit sintered metal diamond tooling. Once the whole floor had been ground smooth we progressively honed the floor through 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500 and 3000 grit stages. Then we used marble powder polish to create a beautiful shine. In some areas the grinding exposed voids in the grout These were repaired with superfine white grout Grinding the floor had reduced the height of the tiles to the level of the grout, creating a monolithic or single surface. This will make cleaning and maintenance a breeze, as there are no deep grout lined to capture dirt.

Seal with marble impregnating sealer

We finished off treating the floor with impregnating sealer to further protect the floor and the grout from staining and to aid cleaning. The floor now looks beautiful and glossy, better even than the day it was installed.

Essential marble cleaning guidance

We carefully explained the importance of looking after the floor properly. It is important to use the correct stone floor cleaning chemicals, as standard floor cleaners will strip away the sealer, leaving the tiles porous and difficult to keep clean. Using the correct cleaners will enhance and extend the life of the finish, leaving the floor beautiful for years to come.
